What does EUTHANASIA mean to you?
RIGHT TO DIE? OR...
TASK 1: Create a blog or live journal and record your findings/reflections of the following questions:What do you think are the feelings of the patient?Does your religion have an opinion? What is the law in Singapore with regards to euthanasia?
I believe that the patients' feelings must be feeling very painful and do not want to continue their life. Furthermore, I think that the patients do not want to stay in this world as they may feel that their presence will be a burden to their loved ones like their family and friends. They may also feel that their presence will be wasting a lot of time, money and resources.
Besides having to face the physical pain of their illness or disease, they have to go through the emotional pain of losing their independence and the patients have to face these pain everyday. Yet, they cannot do anything much to solve this problem.
Furthermore, I think that the patients will envy other people of their same age as they do not face constraints while doing daily-life things. They have to be aware of their diet as well as their mobility.
Every single person in the world has feelings and they will definitely not allow the people around him or her to suffer with them. They will most likely want to bear the pain themselves and not harm anyone.
I believe that my religion has an opinion towards the issue of euthanasia. As a Christian, I am against euthanasia as firstly, our life is a gift from God and we should respect the life process that God had created. Thus, we should not intefere in the life of any person, even if that person wants to die. Secondly, human beings are valuable because they are made in God's image and so we should value our lives and treasure every single thing that we have in our life. Personally, I feel that we should not take our lives as many people have difficulty living for even a day. Being in this world is very difficult and we should be thankful that we can have the opportunity to live in the world and know many things. Many people in the world die of hunger, poverty and even of diseases. However, we should stay on until the very end so as not to let people around you to worry about you. During the days when we are still alive, we can still know many things and see the wonders of everything present in the world.
Singapore also has a view on euthanasia and she feels that it is illegal to allow euthanasia. The Netherlands was the first EU country to allow euthanasia in 2002, although in strict conditions, and was followed by Belgium the following year. Thus, it is not advisable for patients in Singapore wanting to kill themselves to end their pain.
